The role of ALIS is to provide information and resources in support of operations, education, training, life-long learning and welfare. ALIS is available to the wider Defence Community including:

  • All military personnel and their families
  • MOD civilians
  • UK based civilians (UKBC) and their families
  • Employees of MOD agencies and their families

Access to our service is free to army personnel throughout your career. Please read the Terms and Conditions of Membership.

ALIS Catalogue:

The complete catalogue of all items help in Army Library and Information Centre worldwide. There are over 250,000 titles available.

Free request service:

Search the online catalogue and click request. Items are sent directly to you wherever you are. Long Loans available, no reservation fees or overdue charges.

Course Support:

From GCSE to Phd: FS to CLM:covering a wide range of subjects - logistics, management, driving resources, NEBOSH and more.

News updates:

Twice daily RSS feeds on ALIS Online or sign up for weekly emails containing information, opinions and insight on current afffairs from over 100 countries. Please contact PCL for more information.

Country information:

Information, resources and links are available on current issues and topics for each region or country Information packs can be compiled from open sources. These are available to units on demand for operational needs and are tailored to meet specificc requirements.

E-resources:

Major online resources such as Janes, Armed Conflict Database, Ebsco, Stratfor, news resources and access to subscription only websites.

Battlefield Studies and Staff Rides:

PCL has a wealth of information relevant to Battlefiled Studies and staff Rides including Regimental Histories, Campaign Histories and Post-Exercise reports (PXRs).

Military Studies Library Service (MSLS):

MSLS is a monthly current awareness bulletin on military and international affairs. The complete database is available online through ALIS Catalogue

British Army Military Book of the Year:

An annual competition to determine the best military book of the year, judged by a panel of Army personnel.

Military Author Talks:

PCL organises regular talks by noted military authors during the year. All Army personnel are welcome to attend, free of charge.
